Palm Springs residents and visitors will soon be able to play the world’s most popular board game in a way that pays tribute to all the things that make Palm Springs like no place else. Palm Springs Mayor Christy Holstege joined Mr. Monopoly in front of Forever Marilyn to announce the new Palm Springs edition of MONOPOLY.

MONOPOLY Palm Springs will be developed over the next several months and fans are invited to share which of their favorite locations, icons, and businesses that they would like to see featured on the board. Fans can submit their recommendations to the official MONOPOLY Palm Springs email at [email protected].

The edition will see locally themed squares replace Boardwalk and Park Place from the original Atlantic City MONOPOLY board and include a customized ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, making the entire game truly a Palm Springs experience. A few squares will also be dedicated to some of the iconic and much-loved landmarks.

Palm Springs Mayor Christy Holstege said, “As Hollywood’s playground to the stars with stylish hotels, boutique stores, iconic architecture and 365 days of sunshine for outdoor activities, I couldn’t think of a better place to be represented by the world’s most popular board game. We are a diverse, vibrant and modern city with amazing art and culture. Even the name “Palm Springs” is in reference to our famous hot mineral springs on Agua Caliente tribal land. Palm Springs is truly like no place else, and we can’t wait to see all that the city has to offer showcased in our very own edition of Monopoly.”

Top Trumps Inc, manufacturers of the official Palm Springs version of MONOPOLY under license from Hasbro, anticipates that the game will be on shelves starting in the spring of 2022. Jennifer Tripsea, representative from Top Trumps said: “We want to ensure that MONOPOLY Palm Springs captures the rich history, diverse make-up and unique character of the city that make up what locals love about this desert oasis. We would love for everyone to get on board and send us their recommendations of what they would like to see included on the board. Anything and everything are up for consideration – from the iconic landmarks, attractions, museums, major events, and eclectic blend of world-class resorts, shopping and outdoor experiences. We urge everyone to get involved!”

MONOPOLY first hit the shelves in 1935 and since then it has been played by more than 1 billion people. Today, it is played in 114 countries and enjoyed in over 47 different languages.
