City of Indio Appoints Miguel Ramirez-Cornejo as Economic Development Director

The City of Indio has announced the appointment of Miguel Ramirez-Cornejo as its new Economic Development Director. With over 15 years of experience across banking, workforce development, and public sector leadership, Ramirez-Cornejo brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record to California’s fastest-growing city.

“Miguel’s visionary leadership and dedication to economic development have already had a transformative impact on Indio,” said City Manager Bryan Montgomery. “We are confident that his expertise and commitment to our community will continue to propel Indio’s growth and success.”

Ramirez-Cornejo has played a pivotal role in the revitalization of Downtown Indio, driving over $200 million in public and private investments to transform the area into a dynamic cultural and economic hub. His initiatives include attracting new restaurants and retail businesses, overseeing the development of market-rate apartments, upgrading infrastructure, and implementing public art installations.

In his new role, Ramirez-Cornejo will spearhead efforts to attract and retain businesses, enhance workforce development, and build strategic partnerships that benefit Indio residents. His responsibilities extend to key projects such as the Highway 111 corridor revitalization, the auto center expansion, and the attraction of new hotels and retail establishments.

Before joining Indio, Ramirez-Cornejo held leadership roles in the cities of Moreno Valley and Eastvale, where he launched innovative economic development programs and supported small business growth. He also brings private-sector experience from Altura Credit Union, PFF Bank and Trust, Provident Bank, and HomeStreet Bank, where he honed his skills in business development and operational management.

Ramirez-Cornejo holds a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from California Baptist University and is a certified Accredited California Economic Developer (ACE).
