City Wok Expands to Larger Location in Westfield Palm Desert

Staff & Wire Reports

When many businesses are contracting, City Wok is expanding. After 26 years in Palm Desert at Cook and Country Club shopping center, City Wok is moving to a larger, more convenient location in the Westfield Shopping Center at Highway 111 and Town Center Drive in Palm Desert. The move will take place in late April and it’s expected to be open May 1, 2021 to the public.

To staff up for the move to a larger space, they will hold a job fair on the patio of the new location on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Interested applicants can pick up an application on site or download from www.citywok.com/Employment2, print and complete before arriving.

City Wok opened in Studio City over 31 years ago with a fresh, made from scratch, made to order concept. One employee has been at the Studio City location since day 1 and many have been loyal employees for 5-20 years. In 1995, owner Stuart Davis opened in Palm Desert in the busy shopping center across from the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. “We have always had a wonderful relationship with the guests and staff at the hotel.” Davis continued.

When the pandemic hit last March, forcing many businesses to close, Davis decided to stay open as demand for City Wok’s takeout was considerable. While City Wok always loved their Cook & Country Club location, the economics of the space were no longer viable. As fate would have it, Westfield stepped up and made City Wok and attractive offer for the location next to Stuft Pizza at Westfield Palm Desert. “It’s exciting to move to a larger space with a beautiful patio looking at the mountains in the center of Palm Desert. When this space was suggested to me, I thought it was a perfect fit.” said Davis. “The desert store has always been very popular and we trust our loyal neighborhood locals will follow us over to the new location.”

The Westfield location will feature a full bar and fun atmosphere, where customers can enjoy cocktails, wine and beer while they wait for takeout or stay and eat indoors or on the expansive, environmentally controlled patio with cozy seating and misting systems for the warm summer months.

Takeout has always been a very large part of City Wok’s business, but during the lockdown, Stuart reports he was busier than he’s ever been in any past years. “We put a lot of time into our app and online ordering to enhance the customer experience. It really paid off when we started seeing upwards of 40 orders coming in at the same time.” Davis explained. “We wanted to take away any phone on-hold time and reduce the possibility of errors. We made the user experience very easy, anyone of any age can do it.” The Westfield location will have a larger area for Takeout staging and a comfortable waiting area. “It’s been very satisfying to see all of the fresh faces at the new location seeing us under construction. They seem to be as excited about our opening as we are and our future at Westfield Palm Desert.”
