Plans for a New Hampton Inn Hotel Approved in La Quinta

By Bob Marra

A new development is set to rise in La Quinta after the city council recently approved the construction of a three-story, 125-room Hampton Inn. The new hotel will be located just south of Highway 111 at the southwest corner of La Quinta Drive and Auto Centre Drive, an area that’s quickly becoming a hub for travelers and residents alike.

The hotel will be nestled among local car dealerships and near the city’s Walmart Supercenter, indicating a strategic choice of location that leverages the busy Highway 111 corridor. The approval came during a recent city council meeting, which ended with a unanimous 4-0 vote. Mayor Linda Evans was absent from the meeting.

A representative from the Irvine-based Greens Group, the project’s developer, expressed optimism about the economic boost the hotel is expected to provide. “We anticipate over $1 million annually in transient occupancy taxes, contributing significantly to the city’s general fund,” the representative stated, highlighting the financial benefits expected from the development.

The city council’s discussion also touched upon logistical aspects of the hotel’s design, particularly the parking arrangements. The council approved a reduction in parking space allotments, setting a 1-to-1 ratio of parking spaces to hotel rooms. Councilmember Kathleen Fitzpatrick voiced her support for this move and urged the developer to implement more thoughtful landscaping to enhance the site’s aesthetic and environmental impact.

“The new Hampton Inn is not just a development; it’s a potential catalyst for further economic and infrastructural growth,” Fitzpatrick noted during the council meeting. She emphasized the importance of thoughtful urban planning and resource management as La Quinta continues to grow.

As La Quinta already hosts a range of hospitality options, including five other hotels and numerous casitas and short-term rentals, the addition of the Hampton Inn is seen as a significant enhancement to the city’s accommodation offerings. However, the developer has yet to announce a specific timeline for the construction of the hotel.
