Shottenkirk Desert Lexus Leads the Charge in Commercial Solar

By Bob Marra

The Shottenkirk Desert Lexus dealership campus opened its doors in Cathedral City in 2020, and it’s already proving itself to be a clean energy leader for the Coachella Valley.

Renova Energy installed 702 SunPower modules on the building’s rooftop. Because SunPower modules have the highest efficiency rating in the solar industry, the new solar system has an expected production of 252.72 kWh. Let’s talk about how that looks in real savings.

For reference, that saves CO2 emissions from about:

  • 34,051 gallons of gas.
  • 333,438 pounds of coal burned.
  • 38,592,924 smartphones fully charged.
  • 2 homes’ electricity used for one year.
  • 701 barrels of oil consumed.

The Shottenkirk Desert Lexus dealership is now home to one of the largest commercial solar installations in the Coachella Valley. For this installation, the savings were weighted heavily in the dealership’s favor with the 26% federal tax credit still available through 2022. While there are tons of environmental advantages to going solar, the incentives are high for the bottom-line cost savings on businesses. In fact, almost 60% of the system cost can be covered by the incentives available.

This large-scale solar system is now a part of the Shottenkirk Desert Lexus building that was not otherwise generating any income, but now it’s working in their favor, in addition to providing them cleaner energy.
