The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce Restaurant Program, a Huge Success

Staff & Wire Reports

The City of Palm Springs, the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism, the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, and several local businesses joined forces to support struggling restaurants during the coronavirus pandemic.  The program, which ended April 30th was a huge success.

With over 15,000 coupons downloaded and 45 local Palm Springs restaurants participating, the program aimed to encourage everyone in the Coachella Valley to “take out” from any of the participating restaurants.  All restaurants in Palm Springs were eligible to participate in the program.

“We were delighted to have reimbursed over $15,000 to local restaurants in Palm Springs,” said Nona Watson, CEO of the Palm Springs Chamber.  “We started the program at a time when all our restaurants were closed for both indoor and outdoor dining.  Now, with indoor and outdoor dining available, we feel confident that the program has run its course with tremendous success.”

“A big thank you to Chamber CEO Nona Watson for coming up with this terrific idea to help support our local restaurants impacted by the pandemic,” said Councilmember Geoff Kors, who serves at the City’s liaison to the Chamber of Commerce. “A little help goes a long way, and the City of Palm Springs is committed to doing everything we can to get our local businesses thriving again as we look forward to a full reopening of our economy very soon.”

The Chamber offered a $10 coupon to customers ordering takeout to help local eateries.  Restaurants that participated were reimbursed for the coupon discount through support from the City of Palm Springs and other local businesses.

“We are happy to have been part of this important initiative which supports our local restaurants,” said Rob Hampton, General Manager of the Palm Springs Convention Center and Bureau of Tourism. “Palm Springs is more than just a destination, it’s the people that hold this community together, which is at the heart of our locals-love-locals campaign called We Are Palm Springs.”

Sponsors for the program include The City of Palm Springs, Brady Sandahl Real Estate Group, Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Eisenhower Health, The Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism, Barton CPA, Miralon Palm Springs, Hot Purple Energy, Palm Springs Disposal, Jewish Family Services of the Desert, Grit Development, Palm Springs Police Officers’ Association, Elevated Experiences and Sunny Cycle.

The Palm Springs Chamber is in the process of running the same program for retail and personal businesses in Palm Springs such as hair and nail salons   Coupons and a list of participating retail and personal care locations can be found on the chamber’s website pschamber.org.  $10.00 coupons are good for purchases over $30.00.
