Indio Launches New Program to Empower Local Businesses: Indio Business Connect

By Bob Marra

The City of Indio’s Economic Development Department has unveiled a new initiative known as Indio Business Connect (IBC). The initiative is a comprehensive program designed to meet the needs of the city’s rapidly growing business community. Fully funded by the City’s Economic Development Department, IBC offers a wide range of services, resources, and events tailored to help local businesses thrive. From new startups to well-established companies, IBC provides vital tools and connections that foster growth, innovation, and resilience in Indio’s business environment.

“Indio Business Connect is more than just a support system,” said interim economic development manager Miguel Ramirez Cornejo. “It’s a pathway to building lasting relationships within the local business ecosystem, helping members stay informed, grow their customer base, and navigate challenges with the backing of the City’s dedicated support network.”

A New Avenue for Local Business Growth

IBC membership is free for all local businesses and offers many exclusive benefits, including networking opportunities, access to business development resources, and invitations to special events. The goal is simple: to empower local entrepreneurs and provide them with the necessary tools to succeed. Through IBC, businesses can expand their reach and strengthen their connection to the broader Indio community, building the foundation for long-term prosperity.

Collaborative Partnerships Strengthen IBC’s Offerings

A key feature of IBC is its partnerships with regional organizations, which provide additional layers of support and resources for Indio businesses. One of these collaborations is with the Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center (CVWBC). Through this partnership, IBC will offer the “iTú Si Puedes! Programa para Pequeñas Empresas” (TSP), a free 12-week program for Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs. Funded by the City of Indio, the program helps participants develop comprehensive business plans, providing seminars, hands-on guidance, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

CVWBC will also offer a similar English program and office hours to provide individualized support for all Indio-based businesses. These no-cost offerings are part of the City’s commitment to ensuring entrepreneurs of all backgrounds can access the resources they need to succeed.

Mini MBA Program and Entrepreneurial Education

Another exciting partnership is with the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship (IECE) at California State University, San Bernardino. IBC and IECE will offer a mini-MBA program tailored specifically for Indio business owners and entrepreneurs. This educational program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and resources they need to elevate their businesses to the next level. Like the other initiatives offered through IBC, this program will be free for Indio-based businesses, reinforcing the City’s dedication to fostering business success at no cost to participants.

Strengthening the Local Economy with Shop Local Initiatives

IBC is also expanding its efforts to boost the local economy with enhanced “Shop Local” campaigns. These initiatives will include seasonal promotions, marketing support, and community events encouraging residents to shop at small and medium-sized businesses. By driving more consumer traffic to local businesses, these campaigns aim to create a stronger bond between local consumers and the businesses they rely on, contributing to a more resilient economy.

Additional Membership Benefits

IBC offers a host of other benefits designed to support business development, including:

  • Indio Impact Newsletter: A monthly newsletter providing updates on business-related developments, opportunities, and success stories within the community.
  • Business Meetings and Mixers: Regular forums for businesses to connect, collaborate, and share insights.
  • Ribbon Cuttings & Grand Openings: Official events highlighting new businesses and business expansions.
  • Indio Snapshot Photography Program: A service that provides businesses with updated photography assets for promotional purposes.
  • Workshops and Roundtable Events: Educational workshops on topics such as lease negotiation, HR, payroll, and legal matters.
  • State of the City and Business Awards: Celebrations of business success and recognition of outstanding contributions to the local economy.
  • Business Directory: A comprehensive directory to promote IBC member businesses within the local community.

Building a Resilient and Prosperous Business Environment

Indio Business Connect clearly reflects the City’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a strong, resilient, and prosperous business environment. With the backing of the City’s Economic Development Department, IBC aims to be a driving force behind local business success. By providing these resources and creating a robust support system, the City of Indio is positioning itself as a leader in fostering economic growth and ensuring its business community thrives.
