Chuck Maynard takes oath of office as DHS city manager

Desert Hot Springs city manager Chuck Maynard announced that he will retire on December 30. As part of the transition to a new city manager, Maynard will stay on board on an interim basis through June 2021.

Maynard started his stint as interim city manager in June 2016 after former city manager Martin Magana resigned. He was named the permanent city manager in November 2016.

When Maynard took the interim city manager position he was retired following a more than 30-year career in law enforcement, including service in Cathedral City and as chief of police in San Anselmo. In 2015, he served as interim police chief for the Desert Hot Springs Police Department while assisting in the recruitment of the next chief, Dale Mondary who resigned in 2019. He also helped facilitate labor negotiations between the city and the Desert Hot Springs Police Officer’s Association.

Maynard will help in the search for his replacement as the City Council prepares a plan for recruiting a new city manager.
