Dr. Shubha Kerkar has been elected as a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Dr. Kerkar serves as the Medical Director of Infectious Diseases at Desert Regional Medical Center. Fellowship in the Society is a recognition of honor conferred upon those who have achieved professional excellence in the field of infectious diseases.
“It is a true honor to be recognized by the IDSA for my dedication to the field of infectious diseases at Desert Regional since 1991,” said Kerkar. “This year has been especially challenging for all healthcare professionals, but even more so for those of us literally on the frontlines as we care for our community members impacted by COVID-19. I am truly humbled to receive this honor and commit to continuing my work to care for our patients with COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.”
“On behalf of the entire staff at Desert Regional Medical Center, I want to congratulate Dr. Kerkar on her Fellowship in the IDSA,” Michele Finney, Desert Care Network CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Dr. Kerkar’s tireless dedication to the field of infectious diseases is second-to-none. Dr. Kerkar was on the frontlines in our valley during the AIDS epidemic, and she continues that commitment to our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our staff and the community are extremely appreciative of her devotion to excellent patient care.”
Kerkar has been performing infectious disease consultation since 1991 and has the distinction of having been a part of DAP since 1993 when she joined the organization as a part-time infectious disease consultant. Her practice is primarily focused on inpatient or hospitalized patients.
