Felipe Ortiz, Marine Corps Veteran, Vice Chair of the Indio Planning Commission, and California State Assembly staff member, today announced his candidacy for Indio City Council, District 4. His campaign is centered on a clear commitment: bring accountable, results-driven leadership to the residents of District 4.

“Our city is growing, and that growth needs to be guided by someone who follows through,” said Ortiz. “I’m running to make sure District 4 residents have a representative who shows up, listens, and delivers — on housing families can actually afford to buy, on safer and cleaner neighborhoods, and on more opportunities for local businesses and working people. Service. Accountability. Results. That’s what I offer, and that’s what District 4 deserves.”

Born in Colombia, Ortiz came to the United States at 17 and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2016, serving four years and earning the rank of Corporal before an honorable discharge in 2020. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s degrees in Political Psychology and Leadership and Management from Arizona State University. He has spent his career in public service — including work at the Social Security Administration and the California State Assembly — helping residents navigate government and resolve everyday problems. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Indio Planning Commission and as a Trustee for the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District.

His priorities on the Council reflect that record: expanding homeownership opportunities for working families, strengthening code enforcement and neighborhood conditions, and supporting local small businesses by cutting red tape and building on programs like Business Connect.

Oscar Ortiz Indio

Incumbent Indio District 4 City Councilmember Oscar Ortiz, who is not seeking re-election, has officially endorsed Felipe Ortiz to succeed him in the upcoming November election.

“I trust that Planning Commissioner Felipe Ortiz will be a hardworking and honest leader on the Indio City Council. He has consistently demonstrated his dedication to our community and to this country through his service as a Marine, his work in the State Assembly, and his role as an Indio Planning Commissioner. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside him over the past few years, and I’m proud to support his campaign.” — Councilmember Oscar Ortiz, Indio City Council District 4

In addition to the Oscar Oritiz’s endorsement, Felipe Ortiz’s candidacy is supported by Indio Councilmember Glenn Miller, Palm Desert Mayor Evan Trubee, Cathedral City Councilmember Nancy Ross, and Riverside County Planning Commissioner and local business owner Bill Sanchez.
