New Director Hired for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSUSB

By Jim Roberts

Angela Allen has been hired as the new director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus.

Allen holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the College of New Jersey and a certificate of non-profit management from the University of California, Riverside. She worked for the past 10 years as the development manager at Olive Crest in Palm Desert.

“I am very excited to move forward the excellent OLLI program that was led by Sue Anderson,” said Allen. “I hope to bring some fresh ideas that will provide exciting new leaning experiences for our mature community.”

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a program designed for adults 50 and older who want to experience learning for the fun of it. OLLI offers non-credit, university-level courses, but without the grades, tests or homework. Membership is open to adults who enjoy learning, regardless of their educational background.

Course topics typically include the arts, history, literature, economics, natural sciences and philosophy, and are taught by current or retired university professors, or accomplished professionals with significant expertise in their field. OLLI membership is also a great way to build a strong social network of interesting and like-minded friends.
