For the second year in a row, the City of Palm Desert has received the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
This honor recognizes the city’s dedication to meeting the highest standards in governmental budgeting and underscores its commitment to transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.
To earn this distinction, the city’s budget met rigorous, nationally recognized guidelines established by the GFOA. These guidelines evaluate how effectively a budget functions as:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications tool
Palm Desert’s budget achieved “proficient” ratings in all four categories and met fourteen mandatory criteria, demonstrating excellence in both content and presentation.
“This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our city staff and leadership to ensure a budget that not only meets the needs of today but also plans for tomorrow,” said City Manager Todd Hileman. “It’s a testament to our commitment to serving the community with the utmost transparency and fiscal responsibility.”
With more than 1,700 participants in the GFOA Budget Awards Program, Palm Desert continues to be part of an elite group of governments across North America recognized for pioneering City of Palm Desert efforts in improving the quality of public budgeting. This distinction highlights the city’s leadership in resource allocation and long-term planning, setting a benchmark for other communities to follow.
