The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert (CDMoD) has announced its newest fundraising and community art initiative, the Eyes of Discovery Mural Campaign.
Located along the museum’s iconic exterior along Gerald Ford Drive, the mural will feature thousands of shimmering tiles with photographs of individuals, each one representing the spark of curiosity in every child who visits the museum. Donors are invited to sponsor a tile for $250 – a fully tax-deductible contribution – to become part of this inspiring work of art.
Tiles may honor a loved one, celebrate a family, or recognize a business or community supporter.

Cindy Burreson, CEO, Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert
“The Eyes of Discovery mural is a reflection of our mission,” said Cindy Burreson, CEO of the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert. “Every tile tells a story, and together they create a beautiful reminder of how imagination and community help shape our future.”
Funds raised through the campaign will directly support CDMoD’s hands-on exhibits, family programs, and accessibility initiatives. As a Certified Autism Center, the museum remains committed to ensuring every child has a space to explore, play, and grow.
“This project is not just a mural – it’s a celebration of community and nurturing imagination in the Coachella Valley,” Burreson added. “We’re building something that represents the way children see the world: with curiosity, courage, and joy.”
