Mojave Resort Reopens After Major Renovation

By Bob Marra

After a comprehensive renovation, the Mojave Resort, a boutique hotel located in the heart of Palm Desert, has reopened its doors. It offers a fresh take on the mid-century elegance that first made it a desert retreat in 1957. Managed by Dallas-based Practice Hospitality, the renovation balances the property’s rich history – originally established as the Gala Villa – with modern luxuries catering to today’s discerning travelers.

“We wanted to create more than just a place to stay,” said Klaudio Simic, VP of Operations at Practice Hospitality. “Mojave Resort is a love letter to Palm Desert, capturing the essence of the 1957 property while incorporating modern comforts. It’s a gateway to the natural beauty and cultural richness that defines this destination, promising an unforgettable stay that keeps guests coming back.”

With 25 redesigned guest rooms and suites, the resort offers an intimate, adults-only experience. Each room boasts direct access to the communal courtyard and pool area, allowing guests to seamlessly transition between the lush outdoor spaces and the serene indoors. The Mojave Suite, a premium accommodation, features a cozy fireplace for evening relaxation.

The resort’s reimagined design honors its mid-century roots with sleek lines, expansive glass facades, and a color palette inspired by the surrounding desert landscape – sand, cream, orange, brown, and green tones dominate the scene. Natural wood textures and vintage-inspired decor create a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere, making the resort a tranquil hideaway.

Mojave Resort’s courtyard is a focal point, complete with a martini-shaker-shaped pool and hot tub spa. Guests can also relax by fire tables scattered throughout the property, offering cozy spots for connection and reflection. The event lawn is available for intimate gatherings, weddings, or corporate retreats, with the option for a complete property buyout to ensure privacy.

“Mojave Resort invites visitors to experience Palm Desert’s enduring charm in a space where time slows down,” Simic said. “With the stunning backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains and the thoughtfully preserved details of the original 1957 property, every stay here feels like a true desert escape.”

As part of Practice Hospitality’s growing portfolio, Mojave Resort’s reopening follows the renovation of The Mining Exchange in Colorado Springs, another mid-century property under the same management. Both projects highlight the company’s commitment to blending history with modern comfort, offering guests a one-of-a-kind experience steeped in local culture and beauty.
