The Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa has completed a multi-million-dollar reinvestment that touches nearly every corner of the 560-room property, from its public spaces and ballrooms to new recreation and dining concepts designed to reflect the evolving expectations of today’s travelers.

Set on 23 acres in Indian Wells, the resort’s comprehensive refresh includes redesigned meeting rooms and foyers, a fully reimagined front desk and lobby, four new pickleball courts, updated poolside cabanas and the debut of a modern gastropub, Seven Olive, alongside new Topgolf Swing Suites.

The renovation blends mid-century modern influences with desert-inspired aesthetics, guided by the Los Angeles-based interior design firm Bishop Pass. Custom-commissioned artwork and sculpture by artists including Brian Peters, Valero Doval, and Ashley Nardone are woven throughout the property, creating a more immersive sense of place, according to leadership.

“By capturing the essence of the desert, this redesign embodies what the Renaissance brand stands for today, connecting guests to the destination and inspiring a sense of discovery,” said Tim Pyne, general manager. “From enhanced digital experiences to refreshed public and meeting spaces, every change has been thoughtfully considered to create an even more seamless and memorable experience for our visitors.”

Design as Destination

In the lobby, sculptural installations echo Greater Palm Springs’ rocky terrain, with wire mesh boulder forms cascading above the reception area and stacked cairn sculptures introducing warm wood tones. A tennis and golf ball sculpture nods to Indian Wells’ signature pastimes, while ceramic pieces and abstract botanical motifs appear throughout the grand atrium and corridors.

Meeting and event spaces have also been overhauled. The Crystal Ballroom features expansive chandeliers and a ceramic wall installation inspired by desert wildflowers. The Esmeralda Ballroom offers garden views through a window wall, creating a lighter, more flexible setting for conferences, weddings, and corporate gatherings.

Digital reader boards have been added to improve wayfinding, reflecting a broader push to streamline the guest experience.

Industry observers note that this type of reinvestment aligns with a wider shift in the regional hospitality market. Greater Palm Springs has seen steady growth in luxury and experiential travel, with properties increasingly leaning into design innovation and cultural storytelling to differentiate themselves.

By integrating local art, desert modern architecture influences, and updated amenities, the resort’s renovation reflects the hospitality sector’s evolution to meet demand for immersive, experience-driven stays.

Expanded Amenities for a Changing Traveler

Outdoor enhancements remain central to the property’s appeal. Poolside cabanas now include modular furnishings and smart TVs, while updated lounge seating and beverage carts aim to elevate the leisure experience. The addition of pickleball courts taps into the sport’s rapid growth and the broader demand for active, wellness-oriented travel.

Seven Olive, the resort’s new gastropub concept, is set to introduce elevated pub fare and a curated craft cocktail program. Adjacent Topgolf Swing Suites will allow groups of up to 8 or 12 guests to play virtual courses in private lounges, pairing entertainment with food and beverage service.

These additions reflect an industry-wide shift toward multifunctional spaces that blend dining, entertainment, and social interaction under one roof. In Greater Palm Springs, such amenities not only enhance the guest experience but also contribute to local economic activity, from increased visitor spending to collaboration with regional food and beverage partners.

Supporting Regional Growth

Beyond the aesthetic refresh, the renovation is positioned as part of a broader narrative about the region’s hospitality growth. Investments in upgraded event venues and flexible meeting spaces provide an economic boost by attracting conferences, corporate retreats and social events that generate room nights and ancillary spending.

The focus on sustainability, community engagement and locally inspired design also reflects changing traveler priorities, as more guests seek destinations that align with their values and offer a stronger connection to place.

As Greater Palm Springs continues to expand its reputation for cultural, recreational and design driven experiences, the Renaissance Esmeralda’s transformation underscores a broader trend. Properties are not simply updating finishes. They are rethinking how space, art and amenities come together to shape the guest journey.

For Indian Wells and the surrounding desert communities, that evolution signals continued confidence in the region’s long-term hospitality trajectory, supported by targeted reinvestment and a clear focus on experience.
