Riverside County Supervisor Manuel Perez has been sworn in to a new term on the Governing Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD), following his reappointment by his colleagues on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to represent Riverside County on the air quality district.
Supervisor Perez was also named Chairman of South Coast AQMD’s Legislative Committee.
A longtime advocate for clean air and equitable economic growth policies, Supervisor Perez has championed efforts to reduce emissions, expand community engagement, and secure resources for communities most impacted by poor air quality, including strong support for the AB 617 program under the South Coast AQMD.
Supervisor Perez is also engaging the air quality district to address dust in the Coachella Valley as a regional priority and is requesting a call to action from them, CARB, and the EPA.
“I am honored to continue serving on the South Coast AQMD Board,” said Supervisor Perez. “Clean air is essential to the health of our families and our economy, and I remain committed to advancing practical, community-focused solutions.”

Perez was a strong supporter of South Coast AQMD’s installation of a high-resolution environmental camera in San Jacinto State Park that uses imagery and AI-supported analysis to track dust emissions and movement in the northwestern Coachella Valley. A second camera, operated by UC San Diego, as part of the Alert California and High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network, is located on Toro Peak overlooking the area from Indio to the north Salton Sea shore. A third camera is planned for the eastern portion of the valley to expand dust tracking data.
The South Coast AQMD oversees air quality for Orange County and parts of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties. Supervisor Perez’s reappointment ensures continued representation for eastern Riverside County residents and reinforces the county’s commitment to science-based, collaborative solutions for cleaner air.
Supervisor V. Manuel Perez represents the Fourth Supervisorial District on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. The largest district in the county by geography, the 4th District covers eastern Riverside County, from Whitewater, stretching across the entire Coachella Valley south to the Salton Sea, up Highway 74 to Idyllwild and the mountain communities, and heading east of the Coachella Valley to Blythe and the Colorado River.
